Angry people leaving company, product failing deadlines and quality requirements. Sounds familiar?

As hopeless as it might seem, the situation is fixable. And this is not just and sales statement, thats a fact. As the fact is that You are not alone, or unique with Your situation. As are the actions and solutions, described bellow, that proven to fix situation in our own practice

Current situation

As does any journey, or any iterative methodology, etything starts of the current point. Yet, as clear as it might seem, the current situation might not be that clear in terms of a problems. It might seem that it's clear WHAT is wrong , yet, this is not the only metric of current point we would evaluate. It's important to understand WHY it is wrong.

Couple of actions that truly helped to achieve the understanding of what is going on in organization and why it is going on so was:

Although all the talks hade multiple repetitions of what was wrong, they did have hidden points of why was it wrong, and notably, main thing popped up.

Broken trust due to the constant misalignment, that created ill atmosphere preventing to move out of the situation.

This sounds like a super abstract definition, yet, it proven to be at the right level of abstraction to create ourselves a result that we want to achieve as a engineering unit.

Building trust and alignment

After agreeing on identified problem, logical direction is to fix it - build trust and alignment.

Although simple to say, yet - quite hard to achieve. And even harder to measure, right? We need to do the measurements in order to know how we are progressing, and measuring trust and alignment, as funny as it sounds, can be done.

To begin with, creating an alignment is a great way to build trust. In most cases we have observed, trust issues arise when expectations gets broken. And they in most cases gets broken due to the poor or absent alignment.

Shaping up competences

We personally believe, that each manager is in debt for his team. And that debt is to make team consistently better. Constantly. This is the success factor for hidden champions, and this is success factor for any organization.
